The DBR9, man. I personally remember vividly being trackside for the car’s debut at Silverstone in 2005, all snarling and screaming brutality.  That six-litre V12 is like nothing else on earth, ear- and earth-shattering. It was built and run by Prodrive, one of the biggest names in motor racing, and though we consider Aston Martin Racing a mainstay of Le Mans Racing now, the DBR9 was the venture that started it all.

“My favourite car from Le Mans is without doubt the DBR9 that won for us in 2007,” says David Richards, boss of Prodrive and chairman of Motorsport UK. “With it being our first victory at Le Mans, it was very special. There was always a great rivalry between ourselves and the Corvette team, who challenged us all the way to the finish.”

That first Le Mans win was definitely special. The fight in GT1 was brutal, with not just the factory Corvettes to contend with, but Saleen, Lamborghini, Ferrari too. It was an era where the competition at the sharp end of the class was excruciatingly tight and you had to be absolutely perfect to win. Prodrive, with their experience across various disciplines, could manage it.
