Jaguar’s return to top-level sportscar racing in the 1980s had pretty much gone to plan, with Tom Walkinshaw’s TWR team dipping a toe in 1985 and developing their craft in 1986. In 1987, the TWR-run effort had been the class of the Group C field and bagged the World Sportscar Championship, but they’d stumbled at Le Mans.

“We were going all around the world together like a travelling circus.,” says Jan Lammers, the Dutch ace who was often TWR’s fastest, and most aggressive, driver. “We raced in the World Championship, in IMSA in the US, tested in Australia… you name it, we did it! We had a fantastic time.”
